Finding the Perfect Rocking Chair

Author: Andrew Bicknell
If you’ve been fascinated by the idea of owning your own rocking chair then here’s some information that may help you with your buying decision. First a little history: The rocking chair is said to have been invented by Benjamin Franklin. While there is no substantial proof of this it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility considering all that the man is known to have done in his lifetime. It is known that during the 19th century regular chairs were shortened by sawing off an inch or so of the legs so that slots could be cut into the bottom of the legs so that the rockers could be attached. This allowed chair makers to convert ordinary chairs into rocking chairs for minimal cost. In fact a retrofitted chair cost less then having a rocker made from scratch. 1. The Modern Rocking Chair - Since the early days of the rocking chair its popularity has never diminished. If anything it has enjoyed a growing popularity through the years. It is said to have therapeutic value and many people claim that sitting in a rocker brings a sense of calm and takes away bodily aches and pains. They are also the chair of choice for a variety of activities including nursing a baby, sewing, and knitting. Of course the image of someone sitting on a porch on a hot day enjoying a glass of cool lemonade wouldn’t be complete if they weren’t sitting in a rocking chair. 2. Rocking Chair Styles – Include the following well known furniture styles; Windsor, Ladder Back, Shaker, Boston, Victorian, Bentwood, Wicker. You can also find more modern styles made of such things as chrome, steel, molded plastic and laminated cardboard. 3. Choosing a Rocking Chair – It goes without saying that anything you buy you want it to last. Hand crafted rockers are known not only for their decorative function but also the longevity. They are made from the finest pieces of wood that are joined together using mortise and tenon joints. This creates a strong joint that can withstand the rigors of constant rocking motions. For the truly detail oriented buyer check to see that the center point of the runners radius lines up right in front of the user’s chin which will ensure a smooth rocking motion. 4. Quality is Important – There are a wide range of prices you can pay for a rocking chair. Some are cheap, some are reasonably priced, and some are very expensive. A well made rocker will run you between $200-$300 dollars and will last a lifetime. In fact many handcrafted rockers in this price range are handed down from parents to their children, becoming something of a family heirloom. 5. Sit in It – Go to the furniture store and try it out. Try sitting in several different styles to get a sense of which is most comfortable for you. This ensures that you’ll be happy with your purchase for the years to come.About the Author:

Decorative Jars

Author: Jizmack Baraceros

Decorative jars are a staple of American homes, and for good reason, too.

Decorative jars are a product of standard cookie jars, though it took a long time to come to that. During the Great Depression, many Americans passed up on bakeries and instead took it to themselves to bake their own pastries and cookies. To lengthen shelf life, of course, they needed to store the cookies in cookie jars. That’s how the cookie jar made its way into the American home.

Over time the cookie jar evolved in purpose – first as a candy jar, and then much later into simply a decorative jar. While you can still store items inside a decorative jar, most people buy decorative jars for the sake of putting them up on display.
27

Some examples of decorative jars are decorative glass jars, decorative ceramic jars, decorative candy jars, and even decorative cookie jars.

Decorative jars can be bought directly off the shelf. You can find them for sale at novelty shops and department stores. But if you’re feeling creative, you can also try and design your own decorative jar, which is easy.

If you’re new to this, you should settle for simple designs and materials. If you’re working with glass jars, it is possible, if you have the skills for it, to etch your own designs onto the surface of the glass. Otherwise stick to basic designs first until you have enough experience to successfully pull it off.

With that said, make decorative jars a staple in your own home.

Living room Furniture

Author: Aravind Ramesh

There are so many different looks these days regarding living room furniture. We really are spoilt for choice. Wooden flooring has been very popular over the last few years and would be most people's choice when it comes to which flooring they would like. Carpet is very much outdated these days, but, having said that, it can give a living room a very homely and cozy feeling. Instead of being driven purely by fashion we should remember that we should pay attention to both the look and feel of the home that we are trying to create.

Leather sofas are amongst the most popular when it comes to sofas. Leather can be very stylish as well as hardwearing and can come in a variety of colours. Fabric sofa's can be much softer and feel more comfortable, especially corner units, which can be very good for relaxing and even a quick snooze.

Glass coffee tables are still one of the most fashionable additions to the living room. They can come in
different types such as clear glass, smoked glass and even coloured glass. The main suppliers of these items are Artisan, Giavelli and Greenapple. They provide a huge range of these products, a timeless collection of clean, calm lines blended into a unique range of contemporary glass furniture; pure ingredients, pure glass, and pure style suitable for every home.

Living room furniture are still one of the most popular ways of furnishing a complete room. There are matching sideboards, display units, hi-fi units, coffee tables and even complimentary dining room
furniture for those who have open plan areas for their living space. They are available in pine, oak, walnut and many other wood colours and textures. Pine and oak are the most popular and give a homely and natural feel to your home. The main suppliers are Bentley Designs, Guru, Julian Bowen, Ruddiman, Oakinsen, Seconique and many more. All of these can give your living room a well co-ordinated and styled look.

There are endless ways of improving and adding to your living room, and it is where you relax and enjoy the company of your family and friends, as this is where there is a tendency for a lot of people to gather. So much time is spent here, relaxing and enjoying your evenings, that it is always the first room to show signs of wear and tear and to begin to look dated. A few new items can make all the difference.

Improving The Look of Damaged Walls in Your Home

Author: Jake Marsh

There are a number of issues why your walls might not be easy to get looking great. Maybe you have an older home that has had patching done to the drywall, or 1970s wood paneling in some of the rooms, or just a poor drywall installation job. If you're looking at buying a home that has wood paneling or had previous tenants who might not have been as drywall friendly as you would have liked them to be, don't fret! There are lots of options available for you that do not involve ripping out the wall and starting over.

While it is possible to just paint over wood paneling to brighten it up, some people prefer to wallpaper over it as well. With either option, make sure to clean your paneling with some TSP first and then prime it. If your paneling has deep groove in it you will want to use a wall paper liner that provides a buffer between the paneling and the paper. This helps keep the grooves in the panels from showing through. There are some thicker wall papers that can also be used with paneling but you are likely to get better results with a paper if there's a liner used underneath.

For an unusual wallpaper alternative, there is a marble faux finish paper that is unique in that you don't hang it in strips. Instead you tear the paper and wet it, then overlap the pieces. This gives the wall no seam lines and makes it a lot easier to hang by yourself. The product claims to cover narrow groove paneling with no filling as well, making it a good option for anyone tired of dark wood walls.

Another interesting option for walls with minor damage is textured vinyl wallpaper that you can paint. The paper comes with repeating designs, many of them plaster textures but there are also geometrics and florals ranging from traditional designs to modern patterns. There are even designs that mimic Victorian tin ceiling tiles if you care to paper your home's ceiling. You can leave these designs white, or paint them to match your decor.

For those with a more modular mind, there are wallpaper tiles and textured wall tiles made from a variety of wood or bamboo fibres on the market. These tiles can be large tiles of wallpaper that you can purchase by the square to mix and match colours or three dimensional sculpted tiles that you can leave white or paint to match your home decor. Because these 3-d tiles have such a pronounced texture to them, they can cover some fairly serious wall texture problems.

If your wall just needs a minor little fix or is just really boring, consider the possibility of wall stickers or wallpaper cut outs. Thankfully, we've moved along from the old days of the tacky wall paper border. Take a look online or at your favourite paint and paper store for ideas of what's out there. Don't let the kids have all the fun either because while some designs would be fabulous in a child's room, there are many neat designs that would perk up any room in the house.

Remember, no matter if you're looking to perk up your existing home or considering buying a home that needs some love, there are many options out there to make your space truly a reflection of you. Do some research into what kinds of options are available to see what would work best in your space and remember to have fun!

How to get a Traditional Kitchen design

Author: bloom media

Many people are turning to a traditional kitchen design these days. It seems that the basic kitchen look is making a strong comeback after being down to the classy and new-age look. The traditional kitchen is one that, while it looks nice, is very functional. The kitchen will use many natural colors and materials. It will also use light to accent and highlight different aspects of the kitchen. Of course, as with any design there are many different options that you will have to make to create a kitchen that is truly your own.

Things you'll need:

- new cabinetry (or simply new cabinet doors)
- wood or stone tile
- marble, concrete or stone counter tops
- hanging, track lighting
- recessed ceiling lights
- under cabinet lighting kit
- paint, paint brushes and drop cloths

Step One:
Choose the colors of wood and walls that you want to use in your kitchen. This will help you choose the rest of the materials that you will need. If you need help picking out colors, look online at what other people have done and find a style that you like. These colors should be natural however. Many times an off-white with a black accent or a cherry wood with a dark accent color. If you want a lighter accent color you can choose an oak with a light accent color.

Step Two:
Cover everything in the kitchen and paint the walls the accent color that you desire. In most kitchens the walls aren't seen much, so you will not need a lot of this particular color of paint.

Step Three:
Order and install new cabinetry based on the wood color that you selected for your new traditional kitchen. You will be better off having someone come in and install the cabinets for you also. If you don't want to spend the money on getting all new cabinets, then look for companies that offer the doors only. Many times this can save you hundreds and it will still give you the same traditional look. You will want to include a couple of cabinet doors that have glass windows on them and display your nicer china or glasses in there.

Step Four:
Put up some under- and in-cabinet lighting. Your cabinet company can do this or you can do it separately. These lighting sets come in kits and you will want to make sure that you can put some lighting in the cabinets that have the windows on them as well as illuminating the area underneath the cabinets.

Step Five:
Replace the flooring that you have, unless you already have a stone tile or wood floor. The flooring you choose should either match your counter top or the cabinetry. Either way, have a professional come in and install the floor for you as well.

Step Six:
Choose a new marble, granite, concrete or stone counter top. These counter tops can be very costly, so if you are looking save a little money you can purchase smaller slabs of counter top and have them lay them together. Multiple smaller slabs are much cheaper than one large slab. This counter top should contrast the color of the cabinets that you have selected.

Step Seven:
Put up recessed ceiling lighting. This type of lighting is economical and easy to install. Normally the kits are pretty cheap as well. This lighting will give you a softer, more calm light in your kitchen. The soothing light will help bring out the natural glow of the cabinets and counter top.

Step Eight:
Install track lighting above the island, if you have one. This type of lighting offers a more direct light while still being a softer tone. These lighting structures are also a great piece of décor that you can add to your kitchen.

Tips:

- Look at photos of other traditional kitchens for any additional ideas. Remember, it is your kitchen so do with it what you please.
- If you want to spend the money, a skylight is a great way to pull in more natural light and can literally transform a kitchen.

Arizona Doors and Windows - So Many Options Are Available To Improve Your Home

Author: Joel Mclaughlin

Even better than a fresh coat of paint on your house is the look of a brand new Phoenix Arizona front door. Nothing stands out on a house more than the front door, and you undoubtedly want your home to leave a lasting impression of elegance and charm on your neighbors, friends, and passersby. There are many materials from which your new front door could be created, so no matter what your style, you’re likely to find exactly the door you want for your home. Traditional wood continues to be a popular favorite, and many are including artistic glass pieces in the center to add a touch of refinement. Metal doors are even more sturdy and durable than wood, and therefore make a popular choice among many, especially parents. Fiberglass is growing in popularity as a beautiful material from which doors can be created as well, and for those who love the environment, recycled materials can also be used to furnish the new entrance of your home.

Windows are another wise investment that will add beauty to the look of your home. There are so many windows styles to choose from that you may actually want to try some new styles altogether, rather than just replacements that will update your old windows. One of the most popular types of window that many people like is the awning style. This beautiful window opens upward to replicate the look of an awning above your window, so it’s a must-have on the front portion of homes for many consumers. Conventional casement windows also continue to be popular, but more and more people are looking into specialty and custom Phoenix Arizona windows as well. Since these windows are offered in a variety of shapes and sizes, it probably won’t be difficult for you to find a style you like. But just in case it is, custom designed windows are also an option that you can easily consider.

Besides the simple fact that your new windows and doors will be beautiful and eye-catching to the entire neighborhood, you can also save money on your monthly utility bills when you buy windows and doors that are energy-efficient. When windows and doors are energy-efficient, it basically means that your home will remain at a moderate temperature year-round despite what the weather man may have in mind. You can also purchase windows and doors with added storm protection included right in the materials. If you live in an environment where the weather is less than ideal or the elements are severe and damaging to the exterior of your home, you can take comfort in these types of storm protection materials. They can protect your front doors from the wear and tear of salty sea air or battering rain. They can also help keep the sun’s powerful rays from penetrating so greatly through your windows, so the beautiful red chair you have next to the bay window won’t be turning a dull pink color anytime soon.

Italian designs

Many homeowners today still perceive European kitchen designs to be chunky and expensive. However, this is not true with Italian kitchen designs. Designs from Italy has always been in the forefront. Every year, Italian kitchen designs are showcased in International exhibitions all over the world, and they have received excellent feedback. Let's take a look at some of the reasons why this remains to be true today.

Reason 1: Sleek and streamlined designs.

Italian kitchens are well known to come in sleek and simple designs. For this reason, you can expect Italian designs to be more contemporary and modern looking. Of course, there are also traditional designs available if that is your preference. Most homeowners still prefer the simple but practical approach that Italian designs offer.

Compared to other European designs, which are mostly custom made, Italian designs are much simpler, and definitely less costly. A homeowner can even bring the entire kitchen along to a new home. It helps to have materials that are generally lighter. But there is another factor - its modular structure.

Reason 2: Modular structure.

The homeowner can bring the kitchen along when moving because the different parts of the kitchen can be easily taken apart, and easily fitted back again. You can't do that with a custom fit kitchen. Due to the modular structure of Italian designs, many homeowners end up saving a huge amount of money in installation fees.

Reason 3: Voids under cupboards and benches.

This is a unique characteristic of Italian kitchen designs. Voids are built-in deliberately to create the illusion of a bigger kitchen. This is possible because of the minimalist approach that Italian designs adopt. The next time you come across an Italian design, take a step back and observe closely. Most likely, you will see that the kitchen appears larger than most others.

Reason 4: Thinness is key.

Bench tops, cupboards, table tops, etc. are all created thinly. Having thin furniture in the kitchen means a few things. Firstly, everything is a little lighter and are therefore easier to handle. Secondly, this creates a modern look and feel that you can't achieve with thick materials.

Reason 5: Easily integrated with kitchen appliances.

No kitchen is complete without the right kitchen appliances. Such appliances include huge items like hood, stove, fridge, and other small items like kettles, utensils, etc. The goal here is to maintain a consistent look throughout the whole kitchen. For example, since this is an Italian kitchen, don't go around putting bulky items in the kitchen. In the midst of the simplistic design, those items will surely look out of place. Consult your kitchen designer on the right type of appliance to buy for your new kitchen design. Your designer probably already has a few ideas in mind. All you need to do is to choose the design that you like best. Kitchen appliances that go best with Italian kitchens are those that adopt a similar approach - minimalistic, simple, and contemporary looking.

Interior Decorating With Wood Blinds and Shutters

Author: David Kraft

Adding wood blinds or shutters to a room's interior is a great and popular way for homeowners to add a sense of warmth and elegance. Both options will help to add sun protection to any room and will add privacy and additional insulation from heat or cold. You can't go wrong with either choice, and ultimately the decision comes down to what you like the most for your home.

Available in a wide variety of colors, finishes, and sizes, wood shutters have withstood the test of time and are a staple of modern interiors. Plantation shutters differ from traditional shutters in that their louvers are a bit larger and have a more contemporary look. Both plantation and wood shutters are extremely easy to clean, adding to their appeal.

Shutters come in painted or wood stains in both wood and faux wood styles and will enhance nearly any room. If you have odd shaped windows, do not fear - shutters can be purchased in custom shapes to fit a wide variety of window shapes. Finally, shutters are the only window treatment considered an improvement to a home that ads value to the house by the IRS, so they truly are an investment.

Shutters can be found in different variations to fit a wide array of window styles as well as personal preferences. Shutter openings can be split vertically in the middle of the shutter or in multiple vertical panels. They can also be split horizontally, allowing independent control of the top and bottom of the window. Although shutters look like a simple DIY project, you are likely best served by hiring a professional to install them, ensuring proper leveling and attachment.

Similar to wood shutters, wood blinds are a bit less expensive and are normally available in the same variety of materials, colors, and finishes. When installing wood blinds or shutters, pay attention to make sure that the finish matches the trim of the window to create consistency. Like shutters, wood blinds can be bought with different sizes of slats to get the interior look that you want.

If you are looking to add visual appeal and warmth to doors or windows, you can't go wrong with wooden blinds. They can be mounted inside or outside of a window casing and are available in custom sizes to fit most windows. They can also be mounted vertically or horizontally to get the look that you want.

The truth is that you cannot go wrong with either wooden blinds or shutters. In the end, it comes down to what kind of personal preference you have. Both will add visual appeal and will give you more light and insulation control. Both can be custom fit to most windows and are available in a number of colors and finishes. For an even better look, enhance your blinds or shutters with fabric window treatments. This is especially important in rooms with a lot of blinds or shutters as the fabric can help to break up all the wood.

Selecting Living Room Curtains

Author: David Beart

It is time to select your living room curtains and you are in a panic. You have visited all the stores, viewed all the choices and still don't know what to choose. As with all design decisions, there is no right or wrong choice. But there are some guidelines that might make selecting your living room curtains a little bit easier.

Style is one of the first things to consider. This will be determined by the style of furniture you have chosen, the size and shape of your windows and even the architecture of your home.

The most common style of curtain is the pinch pleat drape. Fabric is gathered at the top of the drapery and "pinched" together creating a pleat. It is then attached to a curtain rod with a small metal clip at the back of the pleats. This treatment offers a full and luxurious look but can be expensive due to the amount of fabric needed.

A less expensive option is the tab top curtain. In this style a tab of fabric simply loops over the curtain rod allowing the drape to hang to the floor. This look offers a casual and relaxed feel to a room.

A contemporary version of the tab top drape would be the grommet top. Large grommets are placed at the top of fabric and a rod is woven through. A grommet is a hole in the fabric surrounded by a metal ring. Using this style in your room will create a clean and contemporary look.

If you have a beautiful view from your windows and/or privacy is not an issue, hanging stationary panels might be a good choice for you. Panels of fabric are gathered together on a short rod and hung on either side of the window or door. They are not functional but add color and softness to a room.

Rod pocket panels are a very inexpensive window treatment. A pocket of fabric is created at the top of the curtain and a rod is slipped through and attached to the wall. They are generally held open with a tieback of some sort. This can be a matching piece of fabric attached to rings on the wall or something more decorative.

Adding a "topper" to your curtains is something you will want to think about. This can be a simple ruffled valance that covers the rod to a more elaborate swag scarf look. Perhaps a tailored box cornice is more your style. Or maybe you want the beautiful wood or metal rod to show. This decision will be based on the type of curtain you have chosen and the overall design style of your living room.

All of these styles are available off the rack, reducing the cost. But if you are looking to add creativity and uniqueness to your room there is nothing more beautiful than selecting living room curtains that have been custom tailored for your home.

Budget is something we can't ignore. As with all things, the amount you are able to spend will determine the type of curtain you choose.

A curtain purchased off the rack that is unlined can be very inexpensive. They are ready to hang and offer an immediate solution to any light or privacy issues you may have. However, they are often poorly made and will have to be replaced often. The color and pattern choices are limited.

Conversely, curtains custom made for your windows in a fabric chosen by you and properly lined can be very costly. There can be a long delay in getting these made, leaving you without window treatments for a while. But the end result will be curtains that give your room a unique look and the custom workmanship, including lining, will allow you to enjoy these curtains for a long time.

Lining your curtains is something to consider.

If you live in an area that is prone to lots of cold weather you may want to add a thermal lining to your curtains. While this will add to the cost, it can reduce the amount of energy used in your home as well as add life to the curtains by protecting them from the sun.

If you are fortunate to live in a sunny area, adding a cotton lining to your curtains will protect your fabric from the harsh rays of the sun. It can also help reduce the amount of sunlight entering the room, thereby protecting furniture and carpet from fading.

However, living in a sunny area can make it difficult to sleep during the day. The bright light can create problems if you work nights or have a baby in the house. Often the light coming into the room can make it difficult to watch television. For these reasons, you may want to consider a blackout lining. These opaque linings keep out any unwanted light and while they will add to the cost of your living room curtains, the extra sleep may be worth the extra cost!

Lastly, appearance is something to take into consideration. Lining adds body and weight to curtains, allowing them to hang properly. Your home will have a uniform look from the outside if all your curtains are lined.

Window treatments can be a costly addition to any home but taking time to make the right choices when selecting your living room curtains will save you money in the long run. The end result will be a beautiful living room you can enjoy for years to come.

Tuscan Intrigue

Tuscan Home Decorating Ideas

Author: Joey Pebble

Tuscan decorating is inspired by the Tuscany region of Italy. In the time of the ancient Roman Empire, people would escape from big city life in Rome, by going out to live in the hills of central Italy, where things were calmer and more peaceful.

There people would live simpler lives, more in touch with the natural world around them. It is these elements of peace, simplicity, and natural weathered beauty, which are the cornerstone marks of Tuscan decorating.

Natural stone is probably the most common element associated with this decorating style. Slate is especially Tuscan, with its natural clefting face, which resembles the rocky hills and mountains found in the Tuscan region. A weathered, worn, comfortable look is also often associated with this style, and most natural stones actually get more beautiful the longer they are weathered and worn.

Marble is another type of natural stone which is often associated with the Tuscan style. Rich marble floors were a hallmark of wealthy roman homes, and the beauty of the polished glistening material is still prized in homes today. Tumbled marble drink coasters are another popular stone item for this particular trend.

Other Tuscan stone decorating elements include cobblestone pathways, sandstone lined windows, and marble arches. Terracotta is also a popular material, and is most often found in roofing.

Part of the draw of Tuscan decorating is the philosophy of durability over glitz. Those who moved away from the city of Rome were tired of all of the pomp and fanfare of city life, and were instead interested in well made, weathered, and worn objects, that could stand up against the ages.

Copper and distressed hardwoods are also signs of Tuscan Decorating. Copper pots, kettles, and bowls can be mixed and matched with hardwood furnishings to create a look which blends naturally with the earth.

The colors used in a Tuscan decorating all get their cues from nature, and the earth. Deep browns, rich greens, and burnt oranges collide, with sunset reds, to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that just feels like you are at home.

The Tuscan decorative style was born of people’s desire to escape from the flash and glitz of the big city, into a quieter, simpler, more peaceful world. This was true for those who lived in the ancient roman capital, and it is true of us today. Even as the world gets faster and brighter, people still just want a little piece of serenity in their homes.

Enlighten Your Home For a Lesser Load

Author: Terry Henman

Short of redecorating once a fortnight, the most visually impacting and cost effective way of creating adaptable space in your home is strategic use of lighting. What was once a mere afterthought, given consideration only out of necessity, lighting is now rightly recognized as a key feature to rank alongside the brand new settee or the fitted kitchen. Proper use of lighting can add drama and life, it can soothe or invigorate, in other words it is powerful enough to determine our moods. Lighting floods every inch of a room in whatever you want- a summer day, an gentle glow, a starry night, a spotlight to aim at anything you please. Can your settee do all of this?

A centrally placed pendant which gives only the option of solar flare bright or pitch black night, no longer meets the needs of the modern homeowner. A far more sensible option is to install spot lights over the main areas of a room or where specific tasks are undertaken (e.g. kitchen work surfaces, breakfast bar, settees, paintings or doorways). The spotlights should be fitted with the ability to be switched on or off independently and a dimmer switch should be used in place of traditional one. Not only will spotlights lead the eye around the room, directing attention to the areas you want to be seen (and away from areas you might not!) but they will help define separate areas therefore making your room appear larger. The dimmer switches will allow complete control over the mood of your home meaning the same light can provide a reading light, an ambient mood or a romantic setting.

Although highly adaptable, ceiling spotlights alone cannot make an area truly multifunctional. Mid and low level lighting such as plinth lamps , stick lamps and- for the more adventurous- floor-set up-lighting, all add another dimension to the atmosphere of a room and can instantly transform a space. Table and floor lamps are much less formal and intrusive than conventional ceiling lighting and help create intimacy by effectively lowering the height of a room. Floor-set up-lighting (basically spotlights upside down) creates much more of a bar vibe and transforms a room by lighting it from an unusual position. Again the effect is much less overpowering than ceiling lighting and when placed along the perimeter of a room, they allow you to navigate your way around without spoiling nights in with a movie!

Remember, it is not solely during evening hours that the lighting you choose will have an effect on the look of your home. Even when switched off, a well chosen floor lamp can add style and interest to an otherwise minimal space. For example, an original or modern remake of a design classic such as the Arco lamp by iconic 1960's designer Verner Panton, immediately creates an air of retro cool and provides a striking focal point for a room. Alternatively, a chandelier (for those lucky enough to have high ceilings) placed over a dining area adds decadence to any dinner party and adds to the sense of occasion whilst lowering the light and helping avoid that cavernous feel.

How To Make Your Kitchen Look Great

Author: R Govindan

The kitchen space is of primary décor interest in every household. It plays host to guests and friends all around the year. 7 Home Decoration Secrets You Would Want to Know

Author: Jessica Ackerman

We always want our homes to be perfect. That is understandable since our home is our abode, our personal sanctuary, the place we look forward to go to after a whole day of stressful work. This is why, one of the most important things a homeowner has to do is to decorate his or her home in such a way that it will be a nice and relaxing escape. This article reveals top 10 home decoration secrets that you surely would want to know.

1. Visualizing is the key

Do not simply make an exact replica of the living room you found on the home interior magazine. Visualize on your own how you want your home to look like, how you want home decors like your wall plaques and paintings to be hung on the wall. Visualization of each room will make it easier for you to do your planning and decoration.

2. Start with a focal point

Any veteran interior designer knows how important it is to start with a focal point in any room so that other home décor items will flow easily around it. It is always a great idea to select an item that gives a big impact like the fireplace, a piano or a sofa.

3. Colors have psychological effect

Colors are important design elements not only because it determines the ambience and feel of the room, and gives the illusion of space but also because they have psychological effects on people.

For example, blue, which is the least appetizing color is not a good shade to paint in your dining area or kitchen. Meanwhile, light and pastel colors, which can relax the mind, are a good idea for the living room. Make sure that the colors you choose complement well with each other.

4. A theme makes it easier to achieve unity and harmony

A décor theme not only makes home decoration a lot easier but is also important because it reflects the homeowner’s personal taste and style. Your theme can be classic, modern, nautical, tropical, European, Asian or whatever you can think of.

Buy furniture and home accessories that match the theme that you have chosen. For example, if the theme of your home is contemporary, modern metal wall plaques would be a great addition while if you have a coastal theme, you might as well go for nautical wall art.

5. Clutter can ruin even the nicest home decoration

Get rid of everything that you do not need or hardly ever use and neatly store them in the storage room. Even if you have the most expensive or most gorgeous home decor, all these are useless if your room is filled with clutter.

6. Lighting is just as important as furniture

Lighting is important because of two things. First, it illuminates the room and allows people to do the things they need to do. Second, it creates an ambience and feel of the room. Because of this, you need to choose the proper kind of lighting, which will make you achieve both objectives. Lamp and fluorescent are great for general and task lighting while candles and smaller lamps are ideal for accent lighting.

7. Strive to achieve a balance between form and function

Form is just as important as function and because of that, it is necessary to achieve a balance between the two when buying furniture or decorating your home. To put it simply, you must be able to decorate your home in such a way that it will be both practical and beautiful.

We all know that home decoration is not as easy as we want it to be. However, it is also true that we do not need a doctorate degree on interior decoration to get the job done right. With a dash of creativity, resourcefulness and patience, we can have a home that looks like one of those featured in interior designing magazines.

Stair Handrails – the ‘beautiful’ Guards

Author: Editor-123

Handrails may not seem a bright topic for discussion initially, but it’s only after you see some creative handrail designs that you look up to your handrail in disappointment. As a quality stairway adds elegance and charm to your home, so does a quality handrails add charm to stairs and thus your home.

The main purpose of a handrail is to support and protect, but there’s no harm in this protective support structure being attractive. It’s in a way, similar to having a ‘handsome’ bodyguard.

Popular handrails

During its early days, the most common types of handrails in use were the ones made from pipes. These served their basic purpose of protection and support, but were dull and unattractive. Times have changed and now, one can choose from a slew of options, which includes handrails made of wood, iron, steel, aluminum and glass.

Each type of handrail has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Metal handrails may be strong, but they are bulky too. Alloy handrails resolve this problem as they aren’t bulky and are yet sturdy enough. Handrails made from wood add an aesthetic charm to the living space. Glass handrails on the other hand, makes the stairs look sleeker.

Recommendations and considerations for choosing handrails

If you need handrails for your office space, then you must follow established codes specifying dimensions and heights. Although there are a variety of handrails with their own set of pros and cons, smart choices are always fruitful. Stainless steel handrails may be a great choice for outdoors, given in its resistance for corrosion whereas glass handrails may be good for a stylish living or work space or business space (like a restaurant). If you are going for a rustic style, look no further than wood handrails.

Shopping For Furniture and Home Accessories: The Ultimate Guide

Author: Jessica Ackerman

Shopping for home furniture and home accessories can be tedious task if you do not know a thing about it. On the other hand, if you know what you want and what you need, shopping can be an exciting and fun adventure. If you are thinking of doing some furniture or home accessory shopping, here are some important tips to keep in mind:

Decide What You Need

First, you need to know the things that you need to buy. Put these things down in writing so that you do not forget anything. It is not advisable to get rid of all your furniture and replace everything with new ones. That is not only impractical but also unnecessary.

Look around your house and see what kinds of furniture or home accessory you really need. For example, if your sofa is already uncomfortable to sit on, then it is time to buy a new one. But if you just want to replace your durable dining table just to take advantage of the discount sale at the furniture store, that is not a sensible thing to do.

When deciding which ones to buy, do not forget to measure the space where you will put the new furniture while keeping mind that you will need ample space between it and the other pieces for free flow of people traffic in the room.

Choose a General Style

A general style for your home furniture is necessary to keep everything in sync. Otherwise, you will end up having a messy and confusing design that will not enable to you to sit down and relax. The five major styles you can choose from include

1. Casual - earth tones and materials like oak, pine, ash and maple woods (overstuffed sofas and casual tables and chairs)

2. contemporary - bold colors, sharp lines, metal and glass (contemporary metal wall art and metal wall sculptures)

3. country - rustic designs with floral prints, painted woods and soft cushions

4. traditional - antiques and antique styles of furniture made of woods like mahogany

5. eclectic - ethnic or artisan decorative ornaments and furniture

By knowing what kind of theme you prefer would make it easier for you to buy furniture. Now, if your home or the room you are decorating already has a theme, then just buy furniture or home accessories according to this theme.

Consider your Lifestyle

Look at your family's lifestyle and stick to furniture that will complement it. For instance, if you have many kids and pets in the house, it is not a good idea to invest on a white silk sofa or a white leather barcalounger.

Get Inspiration

Look at interior design magazines, talk to interior decorators, search the Internet and read books on this topic. Study about home designing so it will be easier for you to find pieces of furniture and home accessories that will suit your preferences and taste.

Set Your Budget

Set a budget and stick to it. This ensures that you do not spend more that you can afford. Buying new furniture or a contemporary metal wall art does not have to mean breaking the bank.

Go for Durability and Quality

Make sure that the furniture you buy will last a long time with you and the family. Buying cheap brands that are also cheap in quality will do you no good. Sometimes spending more for quality can save you more in the long run.

Decorating your home with new furniture and accessories is truly a fun way to spruce up your abode.

Tips For Creating Antique Bathrooms to Suit Your Budget

Author: Niall Roche

The bathroom is usually seen as the most practical room in the house as well as being a room for people to escape from modern life in. This means that your bathroom has to be functional so that you can keep yourself clean but also give you a sense of serenity when you need it; in the case of winding down after a hard day and just needing some "me" time. Some people don't always like the clinical look of modern bathrooms and for those of you who don't you can always go for the antique effect in your bathroom.

You don't have to do a total overhaul to get that antique look in your bathroom. You don't have to be an antique expert either when it comes to down to it. A total novice can create an antique bathroom without too much effort. With a little imagination, you can easily turn your bathroom into a space of old-fashioned quaintness.

Keep in mind that anything considered to be an antique is usually more than 100 years old. However, not all collectible items are considered antiques. Also, not all antiques are collectible items - it's just how things work out. If you have ever watched the Antique Road Show on TV, you'll have seen a lot of people with items that have been in their families for over 100 years but are pretty much worthless.

It's possible to get your hands on antiques without paying insane prices too. You can go down the route of looking for genuine antique items which can and will cost quite a bit of money. But you can also get replica antique items that look the part without costing the earth. A lot of hardware stores (online and offline) have items like soap dishes, door handles, mirrors, vanities and shelves that can create the antique look you're wanting to create at home. Even adding a few items like these to your bathroom can start the antiquing process. Some places even sell these items in matching sets.

You can also turn your modern bathroom into an antique one by purchasing antique mirrors. How much you are willing to spend depends on your budget and just how badly you want to create that perfect look in your bathroom. You can shop for antique mirrors online or in high-end stores. Sometimes a great antique mirror is all that you need to transform your bathroom.

Another aspect of creating an antique bathroom is what paint you're going to use. Look at pictures of the décor using the Victorian era or other similar areas and you'll have an idea of what colors were used. You could also consider some faux painting techniques to artificially age or weather your bathroom décor to give it a more authentic antique feel to it. Getting your paint scheme right is critical to your antique bathroom looking just right.

If these ideas for antique bathrooms are not enough, consider the fact that many companies are making fixtures that have an antique look in order to satisfy this customer trend. You can buy new antique pieces without worrying about the problems that you might have with authentic antiques or the cost involved with genuine antiques. The cost of maintaining antiques makes using modern replicas more practical and cost-effective.

Nautical Chart Coasters, Set of 4

Bedroom Drink Coasters

Author: Joey Pebble

Coasters are an often overlooked piece of home decor, that can really add a subtle but noticeable element to a rooms ambiance. While they are small, and mainly functional, they also come in sets, which allows you to spread them throughout a space. In this way the coaster can carry a certain color, or aspect, to every corner of a room, while still maintaining their useful nature.

The type of coaster you choose for your bedroom will have a major effect on how that room is influenced. One popular choice is to use upscale glass coasters. These coasters have a sleek modern feal, that brings to mind thoughts of corporate board rooms and towering skyscrapers.

Steal coasters are another way to add a modern touch to the space. Shining, stark, and hard, steal is a symbol of power and sophistication. While this might be appropriate for a high power corporate board room, that is not always the right choice for a relaxing or soothing bedroom.

Marble coasters are elegant and beautiful, but are less impersonal that coasters made from manufactured materials. The natural mountain born essence of the stone tends to add a personal, even primal element to the pieces.

Sandstone coasters have a gentle, soft appeal. Their sandy surface is reminiscent of a warm beach on a summer day. They of course also have the benefit of being absorbent, and thus highly functional.

Probably the most popular bedroom coastersare made from some sort of wool or cloth. These are often handmade, although you can find a variety of these in stores and online. The soft warm material just makes them feal cozier than others made from harder materials.

Whichever coaster you choose for your bedroom, it is important that it matches the personality you are trying to exude. They should also be functional and hassle free, so that they can contribute to relaxed atmosphere you are trying to create.

Which Kitchen Floor is Right for Your Home?

A low maintenance floor can cut down the time you spend cleaning your home and make your property more hygienic. Having a stunning floor can also update the look of your home and potentially increase the value of your property if you’re looking to sell. There are many options when it comes to replacing the flooring in the key rooms of your home so check out some popular choices below.

Laminate

Laminate floors are a popular choice as they are affordable, easy to fit and easy to clean. Just because laminate tends to be a cheaper option, it doesn’t mean it’s any less stylish as it can come in hardwood or stone designs to give the illusion of much more expensive flooring. Laminate is also very easy to maintain as spillages won’t permanently damage the surface and cleaning is easy with warm soapy water. A downside of laminate is that after extended use the whole floor has to be replaced and can’t just be retreated as natural stone or wood flooring can.

Natural stone

Any room can look super stylish and luxurious with natural stone flooring. The most popular choices are slate, granite and quartz which can all bring a room right up to date. However, natural stone flooring is expensive and it’s not particularly suitable if you find your home hard to heat as it can often be cold underfoot. In terms of investment, natural stone flooring can last for decades with very little maintenance. If chips or scratches do occur in the flooring it’s wise to get a professional in to reseal the surface to avoid any further damage.

Vinyl

Vinyl is a similar surface to laminate but offers a more cushioned feel and can bounce back into shape. As with laminate, vinyl is very easy to install and can be cut into shape from a sheet or tiles which can be installed to fit any size floor. Vinyl flooring is made up of four separate layers making it very sturdy and hard wearing, especially as the top layer is a clear film designed to protect the surface underneath. There are plenty of colours and patterns available which means this type of flooring is suitable for a wide range of kitchens.

Natural wood

Although wood effect flooring is common, you can choose to go all out and install some genuine natural wood for the floors in your home. As with natural stone, this type of flooring can be expensive and to be fitted properly everything will need to be removed from the room so it’s not a great choice if you want a quick solution for your floors. Oak and maple are a popular choice for floors and give a deep brown look which is versatile enough to complement both a traditional or contemporary home. Wood can stain easily and warp in damp conditions such as in kitchens or bathrooms so it’s important to get the surface treated properly as soon as it’s installed. Annual waxing is also recommended to keep the floors protected and looking great.

Whatever choice of flooring you go for, make sure you consult the experts before you buy so you can be sure the surface is right for your home.

Are you in the market for new furniture? If you are, perhaps you may be interested in looking at some wicker furniture. Wicker furniture offers a whole new dimension to your home furnishing. Not many homeowners realize this, but there are actually many benefits that are overlooked.
Classic Wicker Furniture

Beautiful wicker furniture.

Wicker furniture has been around for ages. In our modern society, we often see wicker furniture in hotel lobbies, holiday resorts, etc. We seldom see them in home. So that perception seems to have stuck. But why do you think hotels and resorts like to use wicker furniture as their chief furnishing?

Just ask yourself, how do you feel when you walk into a setting full of wicker furniture? Chances are, you start feeling more relax. The entire mood in the room is a relaxing one. That is because wicker furniture has this natural quality - it is able to create a relaxing environment.

Most people who visit hotels and resorts want to relax. Therefore, it makes good sense to place wicker furniture in such settings. But what about the home for the average homeowner? Is wicker furniture a suitable candidate?

The home is a place for relaxing. It is a sanctuary, where you can go back to after a busy day at work. Surely, you want your home to have a relaxing environment that welcomes you home each and every single day. That's why more and more homeowners are buying wicker furniture for their homes.

Affordable wicker furniture.

Contrary to popular belief, wicker furniture cost less than other furniture types such as wooden furniture. Many people think that wicker furniture is expensive because they see such furniture in 5 star hotels. Clearly, that is not the case. Some wicker furniture are indeed expensive due to their rare and complex patterns, but in most cases, wicker furniture is actually more affordable than other furniture.

The furniture is cheap because they are manufactured in Asian countries where labor and materials are cheap. When the cost of production is cheap, the retail price tend to be cheaper too. If you really want to save more money, you may even buy wicker furniture at wholesale prices. That does mean having to buy more in a single order, but you also save a lot more.

Durable wicker furniture.

Cane is well known for its toughness. After treating with heat in the manufacturing process, the cane is then allowed to cool. Once cooled, the cane quickly regains its tough qualities. You can't easily bend it, and you certainly can't easily break it. In other words, you can expect your wicker furniture to last for many years.

The furniture requires very little maintenance. Just wipe it with a wet cloth every now and then to prevent dust from accumulating in the gaps.

Three Things to Have When Decorating

People, in their own little way, want to experience how it feels like to decorate something. Others would start decorating or creating accessories. Earrings, bracelets, anklets and the likes are only a few of the pieces that they can try making. When they feel confident about it, they can try to make larger pieces like a metal wall sculpture. It is better if individuals learn first how to use metals and making the blueprint of the design.

Of course, you would creativity when you want to decorate. Everywhere you look, a person gave his all in order to create something unique and pleasant. With constant practice and determination, people come up with extraordinary designs and ideas wherein even people from abroad appreciate. The great thing about this is that once you made something, people will admire you for your willingness to make something different. Even though the world has plenty of common things, you still want to make a difference in the world. There is nothing wrong if you do not go with the flow. It is okay sometimes to be like that at least you are not a passive person.

Second thing that you must have if you want to decorate is confidence. If you always think that you cannot do it, then there is no use if you want to pursue making a metal wall sculpture. No matter what the outcome would be, you should be happy that you undergone the experience. Do not always take things negatively because it will do you no good. Sometimes, failures make way for great and better things so try to make the most out of it.

Last thing that you have to have if you want to continue on your dream to decorate is patience. Everything takes time and surely each time you wait, it is worth your time. If you try to make things faster, you might not be able to have a nice outcome. If you can make things at a much faster rate without compromising the quality, better for you. Not everyone can do that. The tendency of the individuals is to try to make more items so that they can sell them to people.

It does not matter whether you target to make metal wall sculpture or a wall hanging; the important thing here is to believe in yourself. If you know that you can do this, your family would be more than willing to support you in this endeavor. More so, it is nice to see that your loved ones try to make you be happy with this. It may be something new to them but it does not matter as long as they see you enjoying every single bit of it. Thank your loved ones for being there for you because they will surely be your biggest fans once people start noticing your potential in this desired field. It is not every day that you get to wake up in the morning and just do whatever you feel like doing.

Helpful Tips in Decorating a Football-Themed Room

Helpful Tips in Decorating a Football-Themed Room

Author: John Rockwell

Every family has got that one person in their home where one family member doesn't only love football but practically worships it. It can either be your husband, your college son or even your teenage daughter. This is not unusual because Americans are well-known for their love of football. Some even collect items such as football memorabilia like new NFL helmets just for the love of the game. Therefore, if you have a spare room in the house which you have been waiting to decorate for a long time, then this is the perfect opportunity to do so. This room can serve as a family room that everyone can enjoy. Here are some tips you can follow to begin decorating your football-themed room.

Gertie Hurlie Football by Small World Toys

• The first thing you need to do is to determine what colors you have in mind that will work best for your new room. It is suggested that you find out the team colors of your family's favorite team as basis for your room's wall colors and everything placed on it. In this way, it will be extra easy to match every piece inside the room.

• You should then determine the materials that are necessary for your new project. If you plan to show off one of your husband's football mini helmet collection, then purchase a display case for its protection. There is also a line of paint available in Home Depot where they offer exact colors of every NFL team.

• When planning for your room design, you don't have to be traditional and paint the walls with one color. You can opt to paint it with alternating colors of the team. Another suggestion is to use a signature color of the team and accenting it with dramatic shade such as silver at the top to create a border. You can also be playful by doing more than just an ordinary paint job like creating a football field right inside your room. This will definitely make the room more fun and creative.

• You can also decorate the room with large pieces of furniture such as football-shaped chairs. If you are not particularly keen on this idea, then you can also spruce up your couch or chairs by adding football throw pillows.

• Accessories are an important part in decorating the whole room. It does not have to be daunting. Look for rugs or lamps with football logos that can match the décor of the whole room. Add a little bit of flair by putting on drapes and curtains with football designs on them.

• It is also a good idea to make the shelves permanent. If your son has a collection of the new NFL helmets, buy appropriate shelves, display cabinets or racks. In this way, your son's collection will make the room have a more personalized feel to it.

Decorating your new football-themed room can be quite a challenging task at first. But if you are creative enough and determined to make this family room fun for your family, then everything will be much easier. Once you have finished the room, your family will definitely thank you for it.

Mistakes To Avoid When Considering Home Improvement Projects

By: Maren Thole

In the life of every homeowner comes the time when he asks himself this question: Does my house need some home improvement jobs? In most of the cases the answer is yes, especially when he plans on selling the property. Although such a home improvement project can prove to be more than a rewarding project, it can also cause a lot of problems that can be very difficult to resolve. For this particular reason, we will now offer you some tips regarding how a home improvement project should look like and what problems you must avoid:

• References – We strongly advise all homeowners to search for the right contractor because he is the heart of the entire project. We recommend that you immediately walk away when the contractor doesn’t want to provide references from former clients. Online searching is the perfect tool for such a task and we encourage all homeowners to use websites that offer such services.

• Project Management – You will need one person that will help you manage your home improvement project. Most of the problems occur when inexperienced homeowners are stubborn and want to manage their own project. A project manager is a single point of contact between the homeowner and the other contractors and is entirely responsible for workflow and scheduling.

• Changes – During the duration of the project, you may want to change your mind regarding some aspects of the project and want to make a few changes that will require more or less work from the hired contractors. We strongly advise homeowners to document every change order and note the exact savings or additional costs. The changes should be dated and signed by all the implicated parties.

• Plans – It is highly advisable to obtain a crystal clear description on what will be done, how it will be done and what materials will be used for the project. For small-sized projects, the contractors usually draw up plans while for the larger and more complicated projects, it is recommended to hire an architect or a qualified designer.

• Contracts – Do everything you can so that the contract is rock solid. We suggest that you put all the details in writing (never take somebody’s word for granted). Here are some of the most critical items that should be included in every contract: company’s full name and the person’s full name along with contact information; an addendum consisting of the complete set of plans; warranties; signatures; start/completion date; prices of services/goods; manner & terms of payment and others as well.

• Warranty – You must make sure that you will obtain a warranty with fully detailed terms and conditions. In order to avoid the confusion as to who is responsible for the warranty, we suggest that you get the following items in writing: Who is backing the warranty? How long is the warranty valid for? What is/isn’t covered by the warranty?

• Financing and payments – Before you make the deal think about how you will pay for the project. Make sure you have total control of your money (never let the contractor or project manager handle your money). Some tips regarding this issue: never pay a lot of money at the start; pay after the materials have arrived; pay when the work starts and as it progresses;

We hope that these tips will help you manage your home improvement project efficiently without any real issues in terms of costs, quality and time. A home improvement project is very important for any homeowner that is why we advise all homeowners to be very careful when choosing contractors, materials and when they set up the contract.

Tips and Ideas in Trends for Selecting Home Office Furniture

Selecting home office furniture to match the latest trends can be a fun, stress free task with a little information and a lot of creativity. There are so many pieces of furniture in thousands of styles to choose from that sometimes it can seem a bit daunting, but here are a few things to consider when you are picking out your furniture.

One of the latest trends for home office furniture is the computer armoire. The biggest benefit to choosing one of these is the ability to have your computer there when you need it, and you can hide it away when you dont. You should consider all of the options available to you, especially if you have spatial limitations or you are looking to suit certain functions like printing or you need your disc library close at hand. Making quick decisions can have you stuck with a piece of furniture that does not fit right with your room or it does not have the space for your equipment that you need. Be sure with a computer armoire (or with any furniture) you take careful measurements before you shop. Be sure to make note of the width, depth, height, and length of your pieces.

Next up for consideration is the credenza. Basically, a credenza is like a sideboard, but without legs. They are usually found in a dining room, but also can be used as a writing table, desk, or a nice surface to hold your equipment on. Some of them have built in shelves or storage, which can be very useful. These pieces of furniture may not be as deep as a true desk, so be careful when you are searching for one. A lot of home office workers actually prefer a credenza to a desk because they are more compact than the traditional desks.

It is very important that the home office furniture you select should suit your style and your productive needs. Just as important is the comfort factor, too. Creating a comfortable and ergonomic home office can be done, and there are ergonomically designed products available to make sure you are as comfortable and as productive as possible. Consider the functions that you perform in your office, and take into consideration your height and weight when picking out furniture. A wire mesh office chair without wheels may look great to you, but if you are 65 and 210 lbs, you may need a little more cushion underneath you than wire mesh gives. If you frequently need to roll from your computer to the printer to some other desk, a chair with wheels may come in quite handy. When you are selecting home office furniture, be sure to really think about your tasks that you perform during the day, and visualize you working with each piece of furniture you are considering to make sure that you will remain comfortable and productive once you have bought them.

Window Decoration With Beads

Beaded curtains are back in style! You may be thinking that they went out with The Brady Bunch, but they are back in a new and exciting way. These groovy drapes make a great decoration in any room or area of your home and come in a wide range of different designs to enable you to create the perfect look for you.

Where Do I Use the Beaded Curtains?

With your windows, there are many different ways that you can use these beaded curtains. You can choose an entire curtain that is made of colorful strands of beads that hang the entire length of the window or you can use the curtains of bead strings to divide an area of the room from the rest of the room. You will enjoy using these beaded curtains to define an area, but without closing off the area from the rest of the home.

Mosaics are very popular in beaded curtains. These curtains are available in styles like a tapestry with great intricate detail or they are simpler with a more sedate design. Even the more natural look can be achieved with beaded curtains by finding ones with wooden beads.

If you have an open closet or have closet doors that open up into a small room, you may want to consider using beaded curtains to block off this area. They are easy to install and will help to define your closet without taking up too much space.

Going Crazy With Beads

Beaded curtains do not mean that you have to have a complete curtain made of beads. There are other ways that you can use the beauty of beads on your curtains. From sewing them randomly onto existing curtains to add just a little visual interest to creating patterns of sparkle on your curtains, you will find that beads can give old and plain curtains new life.

Edging your drapes, curtains, or sheers with beads can give them a more customized look. Beads can add just the right touch of style and beauty to curtains all over your home.

A beaded fringe added along the hem of a formal drape can help to make it even more elegant and formal looking. This looks works great for a formal living room. To add even more cohesion, you can add the same beaded fringe to pillows thrown around the room.

If you are not a sewer, then you will be happy to know that you can purchase curtains that are ready made and add beading without having to pull out the needle and thread. Hot glue can be used to add beading to curtains, but keep in mind that sewing will be much more durable than a craft glue or hot glue.

Adding beads is a great way to make an old and tired curtain look newer and more stylish. This also gives a room a more customized feel. By using either full beaded curtains or adding beads to existing curtains, you will find that they work great for windows, closets, and for room dividers.
